Expression Web now available

I’m delighted to announce the availability of Microsoft’s new Web design application, Expression Web. Expression Web is now available from Amazon.com, as is the upgrade for FrontPage.

I’ve been working in Web design and content development since 1994, and with FrontPage since 2002. I’m now a technical writer for Expression Web. On these pages, you’ll find discussions of Expression Web, Web standards, and migrating your FrontPage Web site to Expression Web.

If you’re curious and want to find out more about Expression Web and the Expression suite of professional design products, check out the Expression Web site. A trial version of Expression Web is also available.

And keep checking back for further discussions of standards-based Web site development using the all new Expression Web!

  1. Pam,

We LOVE the product… but are not able to use it!

All of the sales FAQ talks about seamlessly passing web sites between VS2005 and Expression Web for coding and design, but we cannot get Expression Web to recognise any custom server controls that are part of the project.

Do you have any documentation that addresses how to actually move a real life project between both environments when the project uses custom ASP.Net Server Controls in addition to the basic inbuilt ASP.Net 2.0 controls (which virtually every serious real-life project does)?

Without this piece, Expressions Web is virtually useless as a partner app to VS2005!

    Thanks,

    -Steve.

  2. Can you use Frontpage and WordPress together?

Can I use Frontpage for everything on my site, and then run a blog within that site that is powered by wordpress?

It seems like a basic question, but I have never seen an answer.

Thanks. (and presumably, if I upgraded to Expression Web, it would be the same)

  3. Hi Steve,

I am not that experienced using VS, so I’m sorry to say that I don’t have an answer at hand! But I plan to find out more, and hope to post something regarding EW/VS workflow that might help answer some of your questions. Also, keep checking the official Expression site (http://www.microsoft.com/expression) and the newsgroups. I’m sure others are asking the same questions!

  4. Hi Marc,

Yes, you can use FrontPage and EW with WordPress. You just need the appropriate WordPress code in order for your posts to appear. I think the answer you are looking for is available in WordPress help here: http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop.

  5. Not sure if I have a bug or a misunderstanding of a feature in Expression Web.
When I set a page size for development using html no tables or CSS – 800×600, in the design mode Expression Web works well until I view the web page in a browser on a system that has a higher resolution, the page will tile and not stay at the preset size of 800×600 — any suggestions?
